Culturally Aligned Masculinity Assessment

Masculinity Beyond Performance

About This Assessment

The Culturally Aligned Masculinity Assessment (CAMA) was developed as a companion to the book "Ain't I a Man Too? Black Men, Identity, and the Myths of Masculinity."

This assessment is designed to help you reflect on how masculinity currently shows up in your life. It is not about measuring yourself against a standard or determining whether you are "doing masculinity" the right way. It is about recognizing where you are aligned, where you are performing, and where you may feel disconnected.

Answer honestly. This is not about who you should be. It is about how you show up.

Understanding the Dimensions

Self-Awareness

This dimension assesses emotional awareness, emotional regulation, and your ability to remain present with yourself during difficult experiences. Developing self-awareness lays the foundation for intentional masculinity, because a man cannot fully express himself honestly if he remains disconnected from his inner experience.

Relationships

This dimension assesses emotional presence, accountability, communication, listening, and the ability to remain engaged during discomfort or conflict. Healthy relationships require more than performance or physical presence. They require emotional accessibility, honesty, and the ability to stay connected even when vulnerability feels uncomfortable.

Community

This dimension assesses your openness to authentic connection, mutual support, emotional trust, and community engagement that go beyond surface-level interactions. Culturally aligned masculinity recognizes that connection is not weakness. Healthy masculinity is strengthened through accountability, support, honesty, and relationships where men are allowed to exist fully without performance.

Spirituality

This dimension assesses self-reflection, internal grounding, values, purpose, and your ability to exist without constantly proving yourself to others. Spiritual grounding does not require perfection or religious performance. It reflects the ability to remain connected to who you are beneath external pressure, expectations, and image.

Understanding Your Archetype

Your archetype reflects a pattern, not a permanent identity. These patterns often develop through experience, pressure, survival, expectation, and the environments we learn masculinity within. Many of us inherited ways of thinking, responding, and relating long before we had the language or space to examine them fully.

Your results are designed to help you recognize how masculinity may currently be showing up across Self-Awareness, Relationships, Community, and Spiritual Grounding. Some areas may reflect alignment and intentionality, while others may reflect emotional restriction, disconnection, pressure, or survival-based patterns.

Growth does not happen all at once. Awareness is the beginning.
